Three killed, at least 48 injured in bomb attack at festival in Thailand

At least three people were killed and 48 others injured in a bomb attack at a festival in Thailand's Tak province, six of them seriously. The attack took place in the Umphang area in the northern part of the province on Friday night.

The festival is called the Red Cross Doi Loypha Fair. This fair is organized every year in the Umphang area. Yesterday, explosives were thrown at a gathering of visitors at the fair. There were casualties. Local media and news agency AP reported, citing local police, that two people have been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the attack.


According to police, they received reports of the explosion at around 11:30 pm local time yesterday. The Umphang area rescue team said in a statement that the explosive landed at the base of a stage outside the fair. Visitors were dancing there. Some of the injured were taken to a local hospital.

Thai Prime Minister Phatthana Shinawatra expressed his condolences to the families of the victims in a post on social media. He said he had ordered police and security agencies to investigate the explosion. He also instructed them to provide assistance to the victims. He also ordered an increased police presence to ensure security at the fair.

According to the Bangkok Post, 8,000-9,000 people attended the week-long fair this year. The bombing occurred on the night before the last day of the fair.
