On Saturday, U.S. President Donald Trump signed three executive orders imposing a 25% tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico and a 10% tariff on Chinese imports. These tariffs are set to take effect on Tuesday.
In response, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that her country would take countermeasures, including imposing its own tariffs and other strategic steps. She also dismissed Washington’s allegations that the Mexican government has ties with drug trafficking groups, calling the claims "defamatory."
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that Canada will impose a 25% tariff on $155 billion worth of U.S. goods. The tariffs on $30 billion of these goods will take effect on Tuesday, while the remaining $125 billion in tariffs will be implemented within 21 days.
China has also declared its intention to retaliate. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce expressed strong dissatisfaction with the U.S. tariffs, stating that the country firmly opposes the move.
The ministry accused the U.S. of seriously violating World Trade Organization (WTO) regulations and confirmed that China will take reciprocal measures against the United States.
