President-elect Donald Trump engaged in a political spat with President Joe Biden and the Democratic governor of California on Thursday over the devastating wildfires raging in Los Angeles, USA.
Los Angeles authorities have been unable to control the wildfires since they began last Tuesday. In this situation, Trump has started blaming Democrats without any evidence. Among them, he has made various accusations against Governor Gavin Newsom. One of these accusations is that Newsom is wasting water.
Trump said yesterday on his social media account Truth Social, "Gavin Newsom (Governor Newsom) should resign. All his failures!"
Trump also said, "The terrible fires in Los Angeles are telling us that there is no more time to wait for January 20th." On that day, he will officially take over the White House from Joe Biden.
"Let this be a symbol of the utter incompetence and mismanagement of the Biden-Newscomb duo," said Donald Trump.
The same day, Biden held an emergency meeting with administration officials at the White House. During the meeting, he counterattacked Trump, saying that people should not politicize the fires.
Biden was scheduled to meet with Pope Francis, the head of Catholic Christianity, in the final stages of his presidential term, yesterday, but he canceled the trip the day before due to the wildfire situation.
Biden, angered by Trump's statement, said, "I'm leaving office in a very short time. But this (fires) is not about politics. This is about giving people a sense of security that we will be able to control it."
Joe Biden has already made various announcements about the provision of funds and other resources from the federal government to help fight the worst wildfires in California's history. However, he has been more interested in refuting Republican allegations that Democrats' mismanagement has led to a water shortage in controlling the fires.
It is worth noting that Trump has accused Governor Newsom of obstructing the normal flow of water through melting snow, which is preventing enough water from being available to fight the fires.
However, the Biden administration says otherwise. According to them, the main problem is with electricity. Because the power supply companies have disconnected the power. The companies fear that if the power supply is active, the fire can spread further due to faulty transmission lines. In this situation, the water pumps are turned off.
Joe Biden urged officials to promote this argument well during an emergency meeting at the White House. "Rumors and fear spread very quickly during a crisis," he said. "People who are not informed about the correct information often accuse local officials of not caring."
Biden added, "The fires in Los Angeles show that climate change is real."
