A car plowed into a crowd of people in a popular tourist area of New Orleans, Louisiana, US, killing at least 10 people and injuring 30.
New Orleans' emergency preparedness program, NOLA Ready, said in a statement Wednesday that it is responding to a multiple-casualty incident in the 8th Ward. The incident involved a vehicle that was driven into a large crowd at Canal and Bourbon Streets. Thirty people were injured and 10 were killed.
The statement did not specify the time of the incident, but many people had gathered in the area known as the French Quarter to celebrate the Happy New Year.
US-based media outlet CBS News, citing witnesses, reported that a truck was driven at high speed into the crowd. The driver then jumped out and opened fire with a firearm. Police then returned fire.
