Ten members of the same family, seven of them children, were killed in an Israeli airstrike in the northern Gaza Strip on Friday, the Gaza Civil Defense said.

The war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip has been going on for more than 14 months. Despite international mediators' efforts to broker a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, the Palestinian militant group, the violence has not stopped.

"Ten people were killed in yesterday's attack," civil defense spokesman Mahmoud Bassal told AFP. They were hit by an airstrike on their home in the Jabalia al-Najla area, southwest of Jabalia. The dead, including seven children, were all members of the same family. The oldest of the children was six years old. Basal said 15 people were wounded in the attack.

The Israeli army told AFP it had struck a number of "terrorists" operating at a military facility owned by Hamas and considered a threat to Israeli troops.

Meanwhile, citing medical workers in Gaza, that 25 Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes yesterday. Earlier, the Gaza Health Ministry said that 77 people had been killed in the previous 24 hours.

In early October, Israel launched a major military operation in northern Gaza to ensure that Hamas could not regroup there.

Amid the ongoing violence, the United States, Egypt and Qatar are holding new talks to end the war and release some hostages still being held by militants in Gaza.

Last Tuesday, the United States expressed 'cautious optimism' about the possibility of reaching a ceasefire in Gaza.

Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023. At least 1,139 people were killed in Israel that day. More than two hundred people were taken hostage from Israel and brought to Gaza. In response, Israel began an indiscriminate attack on the blockaded Gaza from that day, which is still ongoing.

The Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry said at least 45,206 people were killed in the attacks, most of them civilians.
