Former US President Jimmy Carter, who won the Nobel Peace Prize, has died. He passed away at his home in Plains, Georgia, on Sunday afternoon local time. He was 100 years old. The Carter Center, the organization he founded, confirmed the news of Jimmy Carter's death.

Jimmy Carter is the longest-lived president in history. He celebrated his 100th birthday last October.

Jimmy Carter, elected from the Democratic Party, served as president from 1977 to 1981. He had to work amidst economic and diplomatic crises.

After losing popularity and leaving the White House, Jimmy Carter regained his reputation through humanitarian work. In recognition of this work, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.

In a statement, Jimmy Carter's son Chip Carter said, "My father was a hero. Not just to me, but to everyone who believes in peace, human rights and selfless love."

Jimmy Carter is survived by 4 children and 11 grandchildren. His wife Rosalynn died in November 2023.
