Authorities fear that all but two of the 181 people on board a passenger plane that crashed in South Korea are dead.

The country's Yonhap news agency reported that two people have been rescued alive. They were in the rear of the crashed plane. Local authorities said that there is little chance of anyone else surviving.

The plane carrying 175 passengers and six crew members from the Thai capital Bangkok crashed into the runway while landing at Muan International Airport in South Korea at 9:00 a.m. local time on Sunday. Authorities have confirmed the death toll in the incident to date at 96.

The airport is located in Muan Province, South Korea, about 288 kilometers (179 miles) southwest of the capital Seoul. Thirty-two firefighting units are working at the scene.

Yonhap reported, citing officials, that the plane may have crashed due to complications in the landing gear caused by a bird strike. An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.
