Lionel Messi started 2023 with happy memories of winning the World Cup Messi's name is written next to multiple trophies this year as well. Two for PSG and one in the new season with Inter Miami. Despite winning three titles for the club, Messi did not have a chance to win any trophy for the national team this year.
Messi had to be without a trophy on the jersey of the national team mainly due to Argentina not having any international tournaments this year. In 2024, however, Messi has a great opportunity to win trophies for the club as well as the national team. Messi won two trophies for the national team and six for the club. These eight trophies include the opportunity to win the Copa America and the CONCACAF Champions League.
2024 has several important occasions ahead of the Argentina national team. This year, apart from friendly matches and 2026 World Cup qualifying matches, Messi will play in major competitions such as the Copa America. Besides, Messi has a chance to win another Olympic gold.
Argentina is the current Copa America champion. They will enter the field in the fight to retain the title in the United States next year. The final of the tournament which started on June 20 will be held on July 14. Considering the recent rhythm, Messi's Argentina will enter the field as favorites in this tournament. In the group stage, the current champions Peru and Chile will meet Messira with Canada or Trinidad and Tobago of the CONCACAF region. Either of these two teams will get a ticket to the main stage by facing each other in the playoffs.
The Paris Olympics will begin two weeks after the Copa America ends. Before this, the Argentina U-23 team will play the Pre-Olympic Championship at the end of January. If they can pass, they will have a chance to fight on the main stage. And in the main match, there is a chance to play three older players along with the under-23 team.
Rumor has it that Messi could play there in Argentina if he gets a chance. "If he wants to play, we will welcome him, but we have to pass first," Javier Mascherano, coach of the Under-23 team, said a few days ago about Messi playing in the Olympics. The door is always open for Messi to play the way he wants to play in the national team.
